The Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science selected a candidate for dean on Monday, October 20, from three names. Luděk Bláha, Michal Bulant, and Karel Kubíček were running for the position of dean. All three graduated from the Faculty of Science and work there.

The election was held in two rounds because in the first round, none of the candidates received the required majority of votes from all 27 senators of the faculty.

The second round of the election, in which Luděk Bláha and Michal Bulant advanced, followed after a short break. Luděk Bláha won, receiving 18 of the 26 votes cast by senators.

"I would like to thank the senators for their trust. This is a new chapter for me. Over the next four years, I want the faculty to become an internationally recognized place for the best scientists and motivated students, as well as satisfied employees," said Bláha after the election.

The new dean will replace Tomáš Kašparovský, whose second term ends on January 31, 2026. The candidate for dean of the Faculty of Science at MU must be appointed by the university's rector, Martin Bareš.
