Cut flowers: do they have a future?

  • 11 October 2025
    9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Central Library of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Building No. 12, Large Auditorium No. A01026, Kotlářská 2, Brno

The conference will introduce participants to the issues surrounding the current cut flower business, which begins in third world countries and, for our enjoyment, involves transporting flowers by air across the globe and by truck across Europe. Cut flowers are a symbol of beauty and joy, but they also carry less visible costs—to water, soil, human labor, and the climate. The conference will offer a look at this phenomenon from a historical, cultural, and environmental perspective and provide inspiration for finding new paths to a more sustainable future.
The conference will be introduced and guests welcomed by Doc. Markéta Munzarová, Dr. rer. nat., Vice-Dean for Cooperation with Secondary Schools, Talent Care, Social Affairs, and Continuing Education.
The event is intended for anyone interested in flowers, flower arranging, event decoration, nature, gardens, and sustainable living.

Participation in the conference is free of charge.
